City releases new policy for federal emails (update)

laptop011
Pensacola City Administrator Eric Olson sent out this email to city department heads:

After consultation with the City Attorney I am clarifying my email dated 7/7/2015 10:46 AM.

The procedures mandated by law and City policy pertaining to public records must be followed promptly regardless of the source or form of emails or other forms of communication to the City.

Please continue to forward all public records requests to the City Attorney’s Office.

Another layer has been added between citizens and their city government. Sigh.

Follow-up: City PIO Vernon Stewart texted me. The Sunshine Center and Public Records Coordinator have been placed under the City Attorney. Therefore, the city administrator is telling city employees to send all record requests to the Sunshine Center.
