Collier County makes masks mandatory

After twice failing to pass a mandatory face mask order, the Collier County Board of County Commissioner passed it, by a 3-2 vote, during an emergency meeting this morning.

Effective immediately, face masks must be worn by owners, managers, employees, customers and  customers of businesses in unincorporated Collier County. The face coverings are also required in nonprofits and government buildings that “facilitate public interactions and conduct business.”

Collier County has 8,076 COVID cases – 1.85 times its June 30 total. Hospitalizations have increased 1.65 times – from 328 to 542. Deaths increased 1.33 times. It has about 60,000 more people than Escambia County.

Escambia County has 6,074 cases  – 2.96 times its June 30 total. Hospitalizations have increased 2.9 times – from 94 to 328. Deaths increased 1.84 times from 44 to 81.
