County redistricting plan nearly complete

The Escambia County Commission and School Board left yesterday’s joint meeting with proposed redistricting maps that will see District 4 (Grover Robinson) and 5 (Kevin White) have the biggest increases, 1,133 and 1,262 respectively. The other districts will see a decrease in population ranging from 123 in District 1 to 1,325 fewer residents in District 2. All of the districts will be predominately white, with the exception of District 3, which will remain predominately black.

Both the school board and commission will hold public hearings on the proposed changes later this month.
