A state appeals court this week turned down a request for a rehearing in a lawsuit that has sought to overturn a University of Florida ban on guns in residence halls and other university housing. The 1st District Court of Appeal on Monday denied the request from the group Florida Carry Inc., which challenged the ban, according to an online docket.

A three-judge panel of the court in October upheld an Alachua County circuit judge’s ruling that backed the university’s position. In part, the October decision pointed to a state law that bars possession of guns on school property, including college and university campuses.
