Daily Outtakes: Behind the headlines

NorthEscambia.com reports the instability in the Town of Century continues with the resignation of Century Town Clerk Leslie Howington. She had been a temporary leave of absence since mid-April.

She told NorthEscambia.com Tuesday that she submitted her resignation due to medical reasons.

“This was a blow to the town,” Mayor Luis Gomez, Jr. said. “We wish her well.”

Howington was Century town clerk from 2010 to 2018 before resigning for another position. She was rehired in 2021.

Bender replaces Andrade

Yesterday, I reported that Amy Bender has been appointed to Florida’s Judicial First Judicial Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission.

Bender replaces State Rep. Alex Andrade who had asked Gov. DeSantis to have someone take his place on the board.

“It’s an honor to do it, but they always meet when I’m in Tallahassee,” Andrade shared yesterday. “I think Amy will do a great job on the commission.”

Here are the commission’s other members:

Dana Matthews
Aaron McCurdy
Cecily Parker
Kerry Anne Schultz
Robert Jones III, CHAIR
Lisa Jo Spencer
Shelley Reynolds
Zack Smith, VICE CHAIR
