County Administrator Wes Moreno did not include the special meeting requested by the West Florida Public Libraries Board of Governance (BOG) chair, Blaine Wall.
Problems:
- According to the BOG webpage, the board will not meet until September 28, after the Board of County Commissioners has approved the budget for FY 2027.
- Moreno and his chosen library director, Christal Bell-Rivera, will have run the library without oversight from the library board for five months.
- The library board cannot submit a budget for WFPL system to the BCC, which was mandated in the 2013 resolution. Wall told me, “Budgeting is an issue. There’s also a lot of uncertainty right now with proposed changes to property taxes.” It looks like Moreno will be deciding the budget, not the BOG.
Are you an Escambia County worker? Did you apply for a county job only to see it go to someone less qualified? We want to hear from you.
Inweekly would like to hear about your experience as a county worker or job applicant under the administration of Wes Moreno (2022-2026). Email me at rick@inweekly.net. We may reach out about your submission, but we will not publish any part of your response without contacting you first.
