Downtown library has been budgeted since 1999

I’ve reviewed the City of Pensacola Capital Improvement Plan. The city’s website has budgets only as far back as 2003-04. Then plan shows the city had $4 million budgeted for a new downtown library to be spent by 2006-07 fiscal year.

What happened to the interest earned on those funds? Should they be put towards the library?

Since then, the Local Option Sales Tax has been renewed and the City added an additional $2 million to money already set aside and an additional $1.5 million for a Westside Library branch.
The Capital Improvement Plan shows the downtown branch scheduled for 2011 and the Westside one in 2014.

The longer its delayed more costs escalate. I’m glad Mayor-elect Mike Wiggins has made this a priority.
