A centralized resource hub called Your Middle School Journey is now live on the Escambia County Public Schools website — bringing key information, timelines, and support services into one easy-to-find place.
Why this matters: The Escambia County School District has struggled for over a decade to retain its fifth-graders after they graduate from elementary school. They have gradually added middle school grades to their higher-performing elementary schools, such as Cordova Park.
- 2025 Grades: Escambia had two new “A” schools—Ransom Middle and Beulah Academy, and three new “B” schools—Ernest Ward, Jim Bailey and Beulah Middle. Ferry Pass dropped from a “B” to a “C,” while Bellview and Workman remain at the “C” level.
The new website shows that the School District plans to aggressively compete for students at the middle school level.
Help for Incoming Sixth Graders
Escambia County Public Schools (ECPS) has announced the launch of a dedicated web page to help families and students navigate the often complex transition from elementary to middle school.
The new landing page, titled Your Middle School Journey, is now accessible on the ECPS website and serves as a comprehensive hub for the information families need most — all in one place.
What you’ll find on the page
- Academic programs
- Middle school curricula overviews, elective options, and academic planning resources.
- School information
- Links to individual school websites, contact info, and orientation event details.
- Support services
- Student counseling, academic support, and information on extracurricular activities for 6th graders.
- Timeline & key dates
- Open houses, transition workshops, and registration deadlines — all in one clear schedule.
Why?
The middle school transition is one of the biggest academic and social milestones in a young student’s life — new buildings, new teachers, new schedules, and new expectations all at once. For many families, especially those without older children who’ve been through the process, figuring out where to start can feel overwhelming.
ECPS’s new resource addresses that gap directly, putting critical information where families can find it without having to navigate multiple sites or make multiple calls.
“The shift to middle school is a significant milestone for our students and their families. We understand that navigating new schools, courses, and schedules can be challenging. This new web page is part of our commitment to smoothing that transition by providing clear, reliable, and accessible information exactly when our families need it.”
— Superintendent Keith Leonard, ECPS
Leonard emphasized that the page is intended to empower, not just inform. It gives parents and students the confidence to step into the middle school experience ready for the opportunities it brings.
What’s next
ECPS plans to continuously update Your Middle School Journey throughout the transition period, adding new resources and information as the school year progresses. Families are encouraged to bookmark the page and check back regularly.
