ECUA may buy land

glassECUA has on its Nov. 16 agenda the purchase of land near Solutia – price tag $13 million. ECUA Board member Larry Walker told PNJ: ECUA could borrow the entire amount if forced to, but it would strap the utilities authority for the next 10 to 15 years.

Wait a second. Why hasn’t ECUA been building up a fund to construct a plant in the central part of the county for years? And surely it’s board should have set up a fund for moving the plant some day.

I went to their website and couldn’t find their financial reports or budget. It’s time we start looking into how ECUA spends it money and why it doesn’t have any reserves. Most water utilities use tap fees (the charge for being added to the system) to establish funds for expansion. Why hasn’t ECUA?

….There’s more that stinks with ECUA than just the Main Street plant.
