ECUA to Begin Friday Sanitation Collection Early Ahead of Hurricane Isaias

The Emerald Coast Utilities Authority will begin Friday, Oct. 9, sanitation collection services as early as 3 a.m. as the community prepares for the potential impacts of Hurricane Isaias.

Friday’s collection will include garbage, recycling, bulk waste and yard waste. ECUA is committing all available collection personnel to complete Friday’s services as early as possible while making customer and employee safety a priority.

Escambia County is working with ECUA to maintain landfill access in support of this essential public health service.

Customers whose regular collection day is Friday should:

  • Place carts, bulk waste and yard waste at the curb Thursday night, Oct. 8. Crews may arrive well before the usual collection time.
  • Secure and return carts by 1 p.m. Friday. Please return all carts to a secure location by 1 p.m. Friday. If your collection needs follow-up, please report it through MyECUA after securing your carts.
  • Secure any remaining bulk or yard waste before the storm to help prevent loose materials from entering streets and storm drains.

ECUA will continue monitoring weather and operating conditions and may adjust or end collection operations earlier if conditions require. The goal is to have collection vehicles off the road by 1 p.m. Friday.

Customers are encouraged to download MyECUA and enable notifications to receive service updates directly on their phones. The app can also be used to report missed collections while Customer Service is closed Friday.

ECUA will evaluate Monday’s scheduled beach collection after the storm based on weather conditions and safe access.

For the latest information from ECUA, customers are encouraged to visit ECUA.fl.gov and follow ECUA on social media. Customers should also monitor trusted local media outlets and emergency management resources for storm-related updates, including Escambia County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service office in Mobile.
