Escambia County by the COVID-19 numbers

Maybe a better way to look at the spread of the coronavirus in Escambia County is to look at only Escambia County residents that have been tested – 629 positive cases of out of 15,721 test results, 4% rate.

Escambia County’s rate of hospitalizations and death are close to the state’s percentages. The county has 64 hospitalizations, which is 20% of all resident cases. The statewide average is 19% hospitalization.  Escambia County has 26 deaths, which is 4% of all resident cases.This rate matches the statewide percentage.

Escambia County is ranked 13th in the state in number of residents infected, and 7th on a per capita basis.

Worse in the Florida Panhandle 

The county is by far the most infected county along the coastal counties in the Florida Panhandle- having more cases than Santa Rosa (206), Okaloosa (185), Walton  (94) and Bay (95) combined.

Escambia County also has had more deaths associated with long-term care facilities than those counties.

Furthermore, Escambia’s percentage of total cases related to LTCs is 40%. The statewide percentage is only 16%.

The only two counties north of Orange County (Orlando) that have more infected residents than Escambia are Duval (1,429) and Volusia (666).

Escambia has a higher per capita rate (60.57 per 30K) than Duval (46.38) and Volusia (37.87).
