Florida has 8,935 COVID-19 cases – 18.3% positivity rate. Â The state set a single-day record for deaths with 120.
Escambia had 144 new COVID cases -Â 126 are Florida residents, four are associated with nursing homes, Â median age 41 and positivity rate 17.4% on 742 test results.
FDOH reports 155 hospitalizations YTD –up 24 from July 8. It will interesting to what the city and county report later today.
The county had another death – maintaining the average of one a day in July.
Escambia County has surpassed the total new cases in June in only eight days – less than half the tests and more than double positivity rate.

Hospitalizations and deaths lag behind the rise in positives.
For July 8,  Chicago reported 176 positives out of 3.698 test results – 4.8% positivity rate.  About 6.5 cases per 100,000 people.
For July 8, King County – where Seattle is located –  reported 113 positives out of 3,127  test results – 3.6% positivity rate. About 5.01 cases per 100,000 people. King County had 12 more hospitalizations.
For July 8, Escambia reported 126 positives among locals out of 742 tests results – 17.4% positivity.  About 39.6 cases per 100,000 people. Escambia had 24 additional hospitalizations, per FDOH.
The District of Columbia had 37 new cases – 5.24 cases per 100,000 people. Positivity rate 3.8%. And only six additional hospitalizations.
In Santa Rosa County, 47 of the 48 new cases are Florida residents, 10 tied to nursing homes, one to correctional, median age 30 and positivity rate of 17.9% for 207 tests on July 8. The county had six more hospitalizations – total 61.
Santa Rosa’s positivity rate has been above 14% for the first eight days of July.
