Escambia sets new COVID records

According to the Florida Department of Health,Escambia County has its second consecutive day with the positivity rate over 20 percent. For Tuesday, Jan. 5, FDOH reported the positivity rate was 20.8% for 1,948 test results. Three of the first days of January have had rates about 20 percent.

The county had six more COVID deaths, bringing the seven-day total to 21 – which is 21 deaths in the past seven days, another record.

Hospitalizations are at 268 – up one from yesterday’s record. Escambia has had 104 more hospitalizations since Christmas, 415 since Thanksgiving
