Escambia three more COVID deaths while new cases slow down

The city of Pensacola’s face mask order and the closing of bars may be having a positive impact on the spread of the COVID virus. FDOH reports only 92 new cases – the lowest daily total for July.

However, Monday July 27 was also the lowest day for test results – 851 – since July 8.

The county has three more deaths – bringing death toll to 85. Hospitalizations are up 24 – total 383 ytd.

Of the new cases, all were Florida residents, 36 tied to nursing homes, and one to corrections. The median age is 37 and 40% of the news cases were between the ages 15-34. The positivity rate for July 27 is 10.6%.


Santa Rosa County appears to be going in the opposite direction, posting more new cases, 156, than its neighbor and three more deaths – new total 22.

The county will top 3K cases by the end of July. It only had 617 cases and 9 deaths on June 30.

Of its new cases, 152 are Florida residents, 10 tied to nursing homes and 30 tied to Blackwater state prison. The median age is 45 and 43% of the new cases were between the ages 25-44 and 38% between 45-64. The positivity rate for July 27 is 22.1% for 702 tests.

Four of the past five days, Santa Rosa’s positivity rate has been above 22%.
