In his civil rights lawsuit against Mayor Ashton Hayward and the City of Pensacola, former Fire Chief Matt Schmitt said that City Administrator Eric Olson denied his pay raise request. Schmitt alleges in his lawsuit that Olson was retaliating against him for complaining that Chief Human Resources Officer Ed Sisson was discriminating against Deputy Fire Chief Joe Glover.
Based on public records obtained by Inweekly, we know that the pay raises were handed out to most city employees in 2015. However, the city had discontinued its job performance evaluation system after Mayor Hayward’s first year in office. A schedule of the pay raises given to department heads and leaders in the various departments shows no constancy between the departments. Department heads had their pay increase from 3-4 percent. The exception is Sisson who received a 15 percent raise after working one year with the city.
Mayor Hayward’s constituent services administrator, Latasha Buchanan was given a 10 percent raise. PIO Vernon Stewart and Economic Development Director Rebecca Ferguson were given 15.3 percent and 16.7 percent raises respectively after six months working for the city.
CFO Dick Barker gave his key leaders 5.5 percent raises. Parks & Rec handed out 3 percent raises.
