Last month we reported on Washington High School valedictorian Christa Childers being suspended for five days because Ibuprofen was found in her backpack ( No Tolerance Policy). Childers is ranked at the top of her class and has been for four years. She has a 4.85 GPA and is a member of the varsity volleyball team.
We received an email from her mother that her daughter’s suspension was rescinded. As is typical in the School District, no one in administration at Washington High or on Garden St. called the family to notify them of the reversal. Mrs. Childers had to call Superintendent Thomas, who eventually returned her call and told her that Christa’s suspension was rescinded more than a week ago along with the other suspensions of first-time offenders and/or non-contraband stuff that occurred during the lockdown search.
