Is NAS Pensacola no longer a viable naval port?

The daily newspaper reported today that Navy had canceled planned May, June visits of USS Iwo Jima and USS Lawrence to Pensacola Naval Air Station because the pass can’t handle the ships. The Army Corp of Engineers is too busy in Louisiana to dredge the pass. Until them, our base can no longer be considered a strategic naval base. It might was well be Whiting Field South or NAS Meridian.
