Jail Explosion costs county over $5.4 million in May alone

The emergency purchase orders resulting from the April 29 jail explosion have cost Escambia County to date: $5,435,054.  Those does not include the cost of replacing vehicles under the Department of Corrections that were damaged by flooding, another $464,727.

Note: When Sheriff David Morgan sent in his budget request for the jail last year, he asked for $6.3 million to hire 83 detention deputies & 12 detention assistants. He also wanted to bring up starting detention deputy pay to match Road Prison deputy pay at an additional cost of $658,409.
