On Tuesday, Oct. 18, the Florida Scenic Highways Program (FSHP) honored Jean Wallace, Scenic Highway Foundation Vice President, with the Gary Balogh Inspiring Excellence Award This is the highest honor they can bestow and recognizes the significant and lasting impact Jean has made on Pensacola Scenic Bluffs Highway and the State program. Jeff Caster, Florida Department of Transportation State Scenic Highways Program Administrator, presented the award. Caster told the 70 individuals who gathered at the East Pensacola Heights Clubhouse that Jean Wallace is the second recipient of this prestigious award and the first choice of the FSHP to be honored in 2016.
Escambia County Commissioner Grover C. Robinson, IV thanked Jean for her selfless dedication to the highway. During more than 18 years on the Scenic Highway Foundation Board of Directors, Jean Wallace has participated in projects ranging from land purchases to park enhancements in the highway corridor. Over the years she has forged relationships among government entities, private business owners and advocacy groups throughout the community.
The Florida Scenic Highway Program is a grass-roots effort to heighten awareness of our State’s historical and intrinsic resources – cultural, historical, archeological, recreational, natural and scenic.   Pensacola Scenic Bluffs Highway was designated in 1998 as the first Florida Scenic Highway.
