Pensacola State College’s Performing Arts Department presents the ground-breaking rock opera, “Jesus Christ Superstar,” Nov. 14-16 and Nov. 20-23.

Show times are 7:30 p.m. for Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances and 2:30 p.m. for Sunday matinees, at the Ashmore Fine Arts Auditorium, Building 8, on the Pensacola campus, 1000 College Blvd.

Created as a concept album at the end of the turbulent ‘60s, “Jesus Christ Superstar” debuted on Broadway in 1971 and continues to thrill theatregoers with its mesmerizing music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice.

Loosely based on the Gospels’ account of Jesus’ last week on Earth, the play entrances audiences with an array of majestic, satirical and tender musical arrangements.

Cast members include Garrett Summitt, Jesus; John Newberg, Judas; Elizabeth Watson, Mary Magdalene; Jeremy Macha, Peter; J. Scott Southworth, Caiaphas; Joseph Knight, Annas; Cruz Jimenez, Pilate; Anthony Broughton, Herod; and Justin Haubner, Simon.

Production staff includes Rodney Whatley, producer; Austen Elizabeth Edwards, associate director; LaVonne French, choreographer and associate director; and Stephen Pearce, music director.

Ticket prices are reserved admission, $16; seniors 60+, children and non-Pensacola State College students, $9; PSC staff/faculty/retirees and PSC Seniors Club members, $7; PSC students with current college ID, free.
