League to honor Crist

Not everyone wants to bash former Gov. Charlie Crist. The League of Women Voters of Florida will present Crist with its “Making Democracy Work” Award in honor of Crist’s contributions to Florida’s elections system while in office. As governor, Crist signed a law ensuring a paper trail for all elections, worked to simplify the process of civil rights restoration and issued an executive order extending early voting hours during the 2008 election.

Crist will be presented with the award at a Bluegrass and BBQ event to be held at the home of Dr. Julie Kessel on July 15. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and is co-hosted by the League of Women Voters of Florida and the League of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg Area. Tickets are $50, and all proceeds benefit the League.
