When teachers at Sherwood Elementary School gathered for what they thought was a routine back-to-school luncheon, they got the surprise of their academic year. Anderson Subaru presented the school with a $5,000 donation plus essential classroom supplies, supporting over 210 students across 10 classrooms.
This generous contribution comes at a crucial time for educators nationwide. According to AdoptAClassroom.org, 92% of teachers serve students whose families cannot afford basic school supplies, forcing educators to spend an average of $895 of their own money annually on classroom materials—a staggering 50% increase since 2015.
- “Teachers give so much of themselves to their students, often without the recognition or resources they deserve,” said Billy Anderson, owner of Anderson Subaru. “Through Subaru Loves Learning, we’re proud to support the educators who help shape our community—and be part of something that makes a real difference right here in Pensacola.”
The donation is part of Subaru’s nationwide Loves Learning initiative, partnered with AdoptAClassroom.org. This marks the fourth consecutive year Anderson Subaru has “adopted” classrooms at Sherwood Elementary, demonstrating a sustained commitment to local education.
Principal Tammy Douglas expressed her gratitude for the ongoing partnership: “This generous donation from Anderson Subaru will go a long way in helping our teachers create a well-equipped learning environment. Having access to the right supplies makes a real difference—not just for our students’ success, but for their confidence.”
Beyond education, Anderson Subaru extends its community support to organizations like Feeding the Gulf Coast, Pensacola Breast Cancer Association, and Phoenix Rising Animal Rescue.
Through its five-year partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org, Subaru has become the organization’s largest corporate sponsor, supporting more than 950,000 students at high-need schools nationwide by 2025’s end.
