Magaha refuses to process Whitehead purchase

Escambia County Clerk of Court Ernie Lee Magaha has sent a letter to County Commissioner Chairman Kevin White refusing to process Commissioner Mike Whitehead’s purchase of surplus county property – 7501 Jamesville Road.

Magaha wrote that state law prohibits commissioners from buying surplus property. Also the price offered by Whitehead ($62,250) is less than the assessed value of $83,490. The property wasn’t declared surplus until after the county advertised it for sale on Dec. 3, 2006. It was also added the purchase to the 12/7/06 meeting agenda as an add-on item.
