Markes denied custody

Erin Markes, the 19-year-old mother who has been charged with criminal neglect of her 4-year-old boy who suffers from a rare brain disorder and who was entered into a local hospital weighing less than 15 pounds in mid-March.

The boy will remain in the custody of the state Department of Children and Families. The next hearing is scheduled for May 5.

The Daily News reports the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s office is standing behind its arrest.
