This morning, cartoonist and weekly columnist Andy Marlette announced that he is leaving the Pensacola News Journal to focus on his family and cartoon strip. He will also produce syndicated editorial cartoons – “insulting the sanctimonious sensitivities of folks who take themselves far too seriously.”
He writes in his column that will appear in print on Sunday: “And it’s been fun. But the time and opportunity has finally come to go rogue and pursue other long-held artistic interests.”
You can find his farewell column on pnj.com.
UPDATE: From website The Daily Cartoonist:
It appears Andy Marlette, the last staff editorial cartoonist for a Gannett newspaper, has left his position at The Pensacola News Journal.
The Andy Marlette page at PNJ.com seems to indicate that the cartoonist no longer is on staff at The Pensacola News Journal.
The latest Marlette cartoon at Creators Syndicate no longer carries Pensacola News Journal as part of the signature credit.
2022 marked 15 years of Andy being part of The News Journal staff as graphic artist, illustrator, columnist and editorial cartoonist.
Andy,
Best of luck in your future endeavors!
I always enjoyed your cartoons and columns
even when you were making making fun of me .
LOL
Cheers,
Larry B Johnson
BUH-BYE! Not suprised your pursuit for more demeaning, unfunny, witless, biased cartoon stories is taking you away from the pnj, but I am glad. I’m sure the muck hole you’re leaving will be filled by another angry liberal demoncrat hopefully with better drawing skills and higher IQ.
He listened to the wrong people on county business.
Your cartoons are hilarious, witty and so entertaining. I will miss seeing them in the Pensacola News Journal. Best of luck in all of your pursuits. Can’t wait to see your next endeavors.
