Martinez to head RNC

Morning paper The Orlando Sentinel reports Sen. Mel Martinez has been named the next general chairman of the Republican National Committee. He will share the chairmanship with Mike Duncan, the RNC’s current general counsel and a former party treasurer. Duncan will run the everyday operations at the party’s Capitol Hill headquarters.

This sets Florida again a major political battleground in 2008 – a state that is still having trouble counting votes (Sarasota). Also shows how GOP wants to pursue Hispanic vote. He’s rumored to be heterosexual so the GOP may be going after the straight vote, too.
