National Night Out tomorrow

The 31st annual National Night Out, a community event aimed at encouraging people to unite against crime, is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 5.

The event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brownsville Community Center, 3100 W. DeSoto St., in Pensacola. It is sponsored locally by the Pensacola Police Department, Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Northwest Florida Prevention Coalition, and the Community Drug and Alcohol Council, Inc. and nationally by Target.

The event will include free food, school supplies for children, music and children’s activities. Among the goals of the National Night Out program are to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts, and strengthen neighborhood and police partnerships.
