Ole Miss opens time capsule from 1978

Pieces of Ole Miss history that have been secretly tucked away behind the cornerstone of the Student Union have come to light when the time capsule from November 1978 was recently unsealed.

Contractors discovered the capsule while working on the renovation and expansion of the building that has been the center of campus life for 40 years.

I was there for the dedication in 1978, and my speech was included in the capsule.

According to the article in the Daily Mississippian, the student newspaper, the capsule’s contents will be turned over to the University Museum or Archives and Special Collections for temporary display before returning it to its resting place.
