Only one publisher approved by Florida for elementary math textbooks

And the winner is Accelerate Learning, based in Houston, Texas. The company was bought in late 2018 by the Carlyle Group. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, a Republican, was the co-CEO of the firm until he resigned in 2020 to run for office.

In March, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill that gave the parents input on the textbooks and instruction materials chosen by school districts. The law requires schools to open to the public any committee meeting where books will be reviewed for purchase and to make all material available for public review before approval. It also mandates that schools post all the selection criteria they use in choosing books.

DeSantis has simplified the process by making only one publisher allowed to be reviewed. So much for parents’ right and input.
