Arthritis Foundation to Baste Independent News Publisher
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Northwest Chapter of the Florida Region of the Arthritis Foundation has selected Rick Outzen to be the honoree at this year’s Arthritis Baste.

The “Stick It to Rick Outzen” Baste will be held Thurs., Nov. 9, 2006 at New World Landing from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., followed by an after party at the Atlas Oyster House from 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Outzen, the publisher of the Independent News, will be celebrating his retirement from the Gulf Breeze City Council after 14 years of public service.

Past honorees for the Arthritis Baste include Al Stubblefield, CEO of Baptist Health Care; Buzz Ritchie, Gulf Coast Community Bank; John Appleyard, historian; Lane Gilchrist, Mayor of Gulf Breeze; Jack & Peggy Fleming; baseball great Don Sutton; attorney M. J. Menge, educator Dr. Bill Malloy, Vice Admiral Jack Fetterman and Ed Gray, III, former Mayor of Gulf Breeze.

All proceeds benefit the Arthritis Foundation whose mission is to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases. In 2005 over 7,000 people who live daily with arthritis were served in Northwest Florida.
