Pensacola City Council filing deadline a week away

The 2012 municipal elections have the potential to be a mid-term test for Mayor Ashton Hayward and the 2010 city charter. There are five city council seats up for election.

P.C. Wu, Maren DeWeese, John Jerralds, Ronald Townsend and Sam Hall are up for re-election. Only Wu and DeWeese have pre-filed to run.

Sam Hall has not filed yet either. Charles Bare and Victor Cross have filed for his at-large seat. We hear Jerralds will seek re-election and, at least, one challenger will come forward. Townsend appears to not be running. Robbie C. Andrews and Jimmie L. Perkins have filed for his seat. The buzz is Jewel Cannada-Wynn will also file for this seat.

The qualifying period runs from noon, June 4 to noon, June 8. The primary election is August 14. If run-offs are necessary, they will be November 6. The winners get four-year terms.
