We’ve heard that the City of Pensacola has appointed Eric Olsen as its Initiatives Coordinator. One of his jobs may be to oversee a proposed new community initiative that will allow citizens to help pay for city projects.

The program, Citizinvestor, uses crowdfunding – financing method that allows individuals to network and pool their money, via the web, to support projects. Kickstarter is the most popular crowdfunding platform for those seeking money for creative projects, such as documentaries, or for small company start-ups.

Citizinvestor focuses on municipal projects. Any municipality or their official partners (Parks Foundation, 501(c)3s, etc.) may post public projects for citizens to crowdfund on Citizinvestor.com.

Once the project is posted to the site and is verified that its tied to the city of Pensacola or one of its partners, then an account will be set up with a payment account in order for the city to receive funds from citizens.

Citizens’ credit cards will only be charged if the project reaches 100-percent of its funding goal before the project deadline.
