The Democratic National Convention began today in Chicago. Pensacola native Jeff Nall is part of the Florida delegation. He called the show from the Palmer House as he was stepping into the delegation’s breakfast session.

“Our main part of business tonight is we’ll be doing a voice vote on several items of party business, including the platform,” Nall said. “During the day, we have an opportunity to participate in caucus and council meetings throughout the day and I’ll be going to the LGBTQ group, the environmental and climate crisis, the rural and the interfaith meetings.”

ABC News White House correspondent Karen Travers traveled with President Joe Biden to Chicago and discussed the President’s speech tonight.

“The president tonight gets the spotlight here in Chicago as he takes the stage at the DNC to deliver remarks that will be very different than what he and his team were envisioning just a couple of weeks ago when he was still in the race for the White House and heading toward the nomination,” Travers said.

“Tonight, aides say he’s going to make a strong case for Vice President Harris and her running mate, Governor Walz, and then he will hand off the convention to them.”

Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves discusses the New Palafox project and gives updates on the Hashtag Plan and Bruce Beach.

Quote: “The reason we see 30% more people are coming off the beach than we did 10 to 15 years ago, is for that experience to feel safe, to have a great time in our downtown, so really the investments in downtown affect everything for us in a positive way.”

Escambia County has provided assistance totaling over $3.2 million this fiscal year to residents in need, helping residents with housing rehabilitation, down payment assistance, wheelchair ramps, emergency repairs, and even constructing brand-new homes through county programs.

Neighborhood Enterprise Division Manager Garett Griffin discusses how the county has doubled its projects this fiscal year.

Quote: “I attribute all credit to my amazing team, just having a great staff in place, and there are several other critical improvements we’ve made to our programs over the last year or so that have set us up for success, and that’s adding in new programs to our strategies.”
