Sarasota lose proposed Jackson Lab, 3,000 jobs

Jackson Laboratory, currently based in Maine, had requested for $100 million in state funding, for a proposed biomedical village in Sarasota County. By 2031, the lab would have had an annual economic impact of $550 million, through direct employment, spin-off companies and affiliated research, and would have created 1,800 to 3,000 job.

The deal fell through on Friday. This points out how difficult it is to recruit businesses in this tough economy, when every city, every state is offering incentives.
