State lawmakers make cuts

The special session is out to cut $1 billion in spending to help cover the state’s $2.4 billion budget shortfall. Education is the biggest target – $365 million. Nursing homes are taking a hit, too. House and Senate leaders have agreed to cut nursing-home Medicaid reimbursement rates by 10 percent.
