Vote on Fricker Center Playground Design—Two Options

City of Pensacola

Pensacola Residents Can Vote on Playground Design Through Oct. 23

Two options are on the ballot: Red, White and Blue or Teal and Green.

The City of Pensacola has opened a poll asking residents to choose the design for the new playground at the Fricker Resource Center. Voting runs Oct. 2 through Oct. 23 on the Fricker Center project website.

The choices. The poll offers two playground designs: the Red, White and Blue and the Teal and Green. Voters can also pick a preferred layout and an additional ADA-friendly feature, and they can leave feedback on the options.

The Bigger Project

The playground is one piece of the $9.5 million Fricker Resource Center Renovation, part of the City’s Direction 25 initiative to restore and enhance the nearly 70-year-old facility. The project is funded by $9.5 million in grant funding awarded in 2023 and some Local Option Sales Tax money.

What the renovated center will include:

  • A career lab
  • A senior center
  • A STEM lab for students
  • Health and wellness access
  • Increased weather resiliency, including expanded stormwater treatment
  • Increased parking
  • ADA-compliant playground updates
  • A multipurpose field and green space
  • Additional renovations to restrooms, entryways, the kitchen, social hall, library and more

Reopening: The Fricker Center is scheduled to reopen in Summer 2027 with new offerings and the same programming: after-school, senior and basketball.
