What Inspired Robert F. Kennedy’s Fight Against Hunger (photos)

Our cover story this week is on James Meredith, Bobby Kennedy, Jr. and Mississippi (Ghosts of Mississippi, 2012 Version). Bill Moyers has a photo gallery on his website that shows what Sen. Robert F. Kennedy Sr. saw on his 1967 tour of the Mississippi Delta.

What he found, writes Peter Edelman in his book So Rich, So Poor, was “children, thousands of them, hungry to a point very near starvation.” Kennedy was “deeply moved and outraged,” Edelman writes, and made relieving hunger a top priority.
