Florida Speaker of the House Chris Sprowls has appointed Rep. Jayer Williamson (District 3) as chairman of the Infrastructure & Tourism Appropriations Subcommittee to help guide the state’s budgeting efforts over the next two years.
“I am honored to be named a chairman of Infrastructure & Tourism Appropriations Subcommittee under Speaker Sprowls and grateful for the trust he has placed in me with this significant appointment,”said Williamson.
As an appropriations subcommittee chairman, the member of the inaugural Rising Star class will also serve on the full House Appropriations Committee. He is also only one of only seven House members appointed to the Joint Legislative Budget Commission, allowing him the opportunity to work with members of both the House and Senate on the state budgeting process.
In his third term representing District 3, Williamson will lead the Infrastructure & Tourism Appropriations Subcommittee in budget recommendations to the House Appropriations Committee for the following state agencies: Department of Economic Opportunity, Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles, Department of Military Affairs, Department of State and the Department of Transportation.
Additionally, he will serve as a member of the newly created Pandemics & Public Emergencies Committee as well as the Rules Committee, the Finance & Facilities Subcommittee and the Joint Committee on Public Counsel Oversight.
“Serving as a subcommittee appropriations chair again this term allows our region to have a continued voice in the budget process and ensures we bring adequate funding back home to Northwest Florida, “said Williamson. “I also look forward to working diligently alongside my colleagues in both the House and the Senate as we tackle the enormity of our state budget and the various other challenges that lay ahead as we look to our future.â€
During his last term in the Florida House, Williamson served as the chairman of the Government Operations & Technology Appropriations Subcommittee and a member of the full House Appropriations Committee and the Joint Legislative Budget Commission. He also served as the vice-chairman of the Workforce Development & Tourism Subcommittee and as a member of the Energy & Utilities Subcommittee.
