Escambia County had 1,006 more Florida resident COVID-19 cases last week – 57% from the previous week. The positivity rate jumped from 8.5% to 10.1%. We had 16 more deaths, half of which were associated with long-term care facilities.

Last Friday, Pensacola Mayor Grover Robinson told Inweekly that he expected the vaccine for COVID-19 to be available in the Pensacola area in January or February.

“We’ve been told the vaccine is going to come to hospitals directly,” said the mayor.  “It starts with hospital workers, first responders, and then the long-term care. The next phase is like your essential workers.”

    The two main city zones, 32501 & 02, average is 9.5. (32502 has nursing home that had a large number of cases.)

    32501, 02, 03, 04, (03 and 04 are majority within the city), average is 7.5.

    Average in unincorporated County, (minus the four ‘city’ zones and three militaty zones), is 6%.

    Based on the above, there does not appear to be any indication that the city mask mandate has had a positive impact on reducing the infection rate in the incorporated part of the county.

  2. Could someone please tell us the number of City of Pensacola residents who have contracted the COVID-19 virus, been hospitalized and died? It seems that public health statistics for the city should be the basis for the city making its decisions. The data is readily available down to the zip code level and you would think that the Florida Department of Health would have a way to break it out further by specific municipalities to include Pensacola. We don’t kneed to know the names of the people or their addresses or even the City Council district in which they live. I know of five people who got the virus, all die-hard Republicans, one now dead.
