Breaking: DeSantis suspends local COVID executive orders

Gov. Ron DeSantis this morning signed an executive order that suspends all remaining local COVID-19 emergency orders.

“I think that’s the evidence-based thing to do,” he said. “I think folks that are saying they need to be policing people at this point, if you’re saying that, then you’re really saying you don’t believe in the vaccines.”

As of Saturday, May 1, only 71,824 Escambia County residents had been completed the vaccination series – about 26% of our adult population.

DeSantis also signed legislation that, effective July 1, will allow the governor to invalidate local health orders and gives the Legislature the power to override future pandemic orders issued by governors.

The law also bans his COVID-19 vaccine passports – paper or digital forms certifying that a person has been vaccinated against COVID-19 used by travelers.
