City Legal Office Wins Battle of the Barristers as Local Lawyers Raise Funds for ALICE Families

United Way of West Florida’s fifth annual trivia competition drew eight teams of Pensacola-area attorneys for an evening of competition and community giving.

Pensacola’s legal community put down their briefs and picked up their buzzers last week, gathering for the fifth annual Battle of the Barristers trivia event hosted by United Way of West Florida. Eight teams of local attorneys competed on June 4, in multiple rounds of trivia facilitated by Triviafari—all while raising funds for working families who fall through the cracks of traditional assistance programs.
  • The evening’s winner was “Quiz Pro Quo,” a team representing the City of Pensacola Attorney’s Office. Team members Adam Cobb, Emily Madigan, Stephen Ringl, and Deputy City Administrator Amy Miller took home the trophy and the bragging rights.

“Winning Battle of the Barristers was a great time, but honestly the best part was the energy in the room and knowing it was all for a good cause. We had a blast competing, and it felt even better knowing it was helping raise money for United Way of West Florida.” — Amy Miller, Deputy City Administrator

The funds raised support UWWF’s work on behalf of ALICE—Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed—households that earn too much to qualify for traditional assistance programs yet still struggle to afford basics like housing, childcare, food, and healthcare. UWWF President & CEO Laura Gilliam said the legal profession is a natural fit for the event’s format. “At the heart of the legal profession is an inherent passion for service, as well as a competitive nature,” Gilliam said. “This year’s teams certainly showcased this through intense play while generously coming together for a great philanthropic impact.” Sponsor Aylstock, Witkin, Kreis & Overholtz supported the event. All funds raised go toward UWWF’s mission to advance health, youth opportunity, financial security, and community resilience in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. For more information, visit uwwf.org.
