Concerned Veterans for America will host a townhall-style event on Wednesday, Jan 24, at 6:30 p.m., featuring Rep. Matt Gaetz and CVA Coalitions Director Diego Echeverri. The pair will discuss CVA’s plans to expand health care choices for veterans across the country. The town hall will be held at Hilton Garden Inn Airport, 1144 Airport Blvd.
Echeverri had this to say:
“Veterans have earned access to quality health care, but unfortunately, that’s not always what they get when visiting the Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans should be able to choose the best health care provider for them and their circumstance, and receive timely, quality care. Allowing veterans to have more choice over health care decisions puts their needs first. We’re excited to facilitate this discussion with Rep. Gaetz and connect with veterans from around the panhandle.â€
BACKGROUND
For years, CVA has advocated for substantial health care reforms at the VA. In CVA’s Fixing Veterans Health Care Taskforce, the group advocates that veterans should have the option to take their earned health care benefits and use them to access care at the VA or in the private sector.
The group is currently advocating for stabilizing the VA health care system over the short term, with multiple bills moving through the legislative process in Washington. Beyond those stopgap pieces of legislation, CVA plans an aggressive effort in 2018 to make longer-term reforms.
The grassroots group recently thanked Rep. Lamborn for introducing the Veterans Empowerment Act in the House of Representatives, a bill the group says is strong and would make many improvements to the VA. Read more here.
