Pensacola Preps Homecoming Celebration for ‘American Idol’ Contestant Keyla Richardson — If She Makes the Top Three

The City of Pensacola is already planning a free concert and parade at Community Maritime Park for May 6 — but Richardson must first survive two more cuts to earn her hometown hero moment.

Keyla Richardson could soon be coming home to a crowd.

The City of Pensacola is in preliminary talks with “American Idol” producers about a free homecoming concert and parade at Community Maritime Park and Wahoos Stadium, tentatively scheduled for the evening of May 6 — provided Richardson advances to the show’s top three.

Richardson is currently among the top seven competitors in the 2026 season. The field narrows to five on Monday, April 27, and the top three — who earn the coveted “hometown hero” treatment — will be decided on May 4. The season finale airs May 11 on ABC from Hollywood.

“We as a city are so excited for her journey and we need to turn out in full support of Keyla to ensure that our ‘Idol’ makes it home for the celebration she deserves.”
— Mayor D.C. Reeves

Who’s Coordinating

Mayor D.C. Reeves is leading the city’s planning effort and has already held two preliminary calls with “American Idol” producers as the competitor field has narrowed. He is coordinating with Escambia County Commissioner Lumon May on event logistics.

Each season, the show follows its top three finalists back to their hometowns for a parade and concert before the finale — a tradition that turns local pride into national television.

Key dates to watch:
  • April 27 — Top 7 cut to Top 5
  • May 4 — Top 5 cut to Top 3 (hometown hero finalists decided)
  • May 6 (tentative) — Pensacola homecoming concert and parade
  • May 11 — Season finale, ABC, from Hollywood

A Show With a Track Record

“American Idol” has been a pop culture fixture since its debut in 2002, launching the careers of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson. A Richardson top-three finish would mark the first time Pensacola has hosted an “Idol” finalist for the hometown celebration.

The event would be free and open to the public — but only if Pensacola shows up for Richardson in the voting rounds ahead.

This story will be updated as Richardson advances and event details are confirmed.
