New Palafox Projects: Intersections Get Focus

Mayor D.C. Reeves’ New Palafox project continues to move toward its May 24 completion date.

The project, also known as “Reimagine Palafox,” is a $10.3 million streetscape transformation of Palafox Street in downtown Pensacola, focused on improving safety, walkability, stormwater infrastructure, and accessibility across four blocks between Garden and Main streets.

Road Work

Romana (Zarzaur Law), Intendencia (600 South), Government Street (Seville Tower) intersections are under construction; mid-block crossings are open for use at Romana block (Saenger to Terrezza) and near Government St (County Complex to Intermission).

Zarragossa intersection (Jackson’s – Don Alan’s) will be closed intermittently, but full closure will not occur until the Government intersection reopens.

Detours

Starting Monday, April 27 through Wednesday, May 6, west bound traffic on Main Street will shift to the center lane. Vehicles traveling westbound destined for areas south of Main Street are encouraged to follow the detour on Jefferson Street.

On Wednesday, April 29, at 7 p.m., the Main & Palafox intersection will be closed until 7 a.m. on Thursday. April 30. Traffic will detour onto Jefferson Street and Baylen Street, then onto Cedar Street.

Other Updates

Pavers install – 80% complete

  • Construction is on schedule for incentivized completion date of May 24 for Palafox portion.
  • Palafox Tunnel – not discussed in press releases.

Wednesday, April 29: Palafox Pulse from 10 to 11 a.m., by Hatchmark, to direct visit.
