State analysts have project that the Escambia County School District will lose 313 students next school year, dropping from 40,141 to 39,828. In the fall of 2008, the year Superintendent Malcolm Thomas was elected, the district had 40,921 students.
While public school enroll has declined, the general population of Escambia has grown about 6%.

TALLAHASSEE — State analysts last week updated an enrollment forecast for school districts in the upcoming 2020-2021 academic year. In all, about 2.89 million students are expected to enroll. Here are county-by-county numbers:
