UWF looking into renaming Wentworth museum

From UWF:

Yesterday evening, UWF Historic Trust leadership was made aware of T.T. Wentworth Jr.’s role as a leader in the Ku Klux Klan.

This documentation was part of a recently acquired collection of more than 7,500 items. The Trust is currently curating, identifying, researching and filing this collection.

The Trust is actively investigating the appropriate process and approvals required to rename the T.T. Wentworth, Jr. Florida State Museum. The museum was named in 1988 by Florida Gov. Bob Martinez. The Trust acquired the museum in 2001, when the Trust became a direct support organization of the University of West Florida.

UWF Historic Trust strongly condemns racism and hate and is firmly committed to an accurate and inclusive interpretation of Northwest Florida’s history

  1. LOL, so rename it the Klan Klubhouse– put the robes on a mannequin in the corner and talk about the iron clad oath and disenfranchisement of the rebels. Learn about the radical republicans–called scalawags and carpet baggers. What was the Wade Davis bill, who assassinated Lincoln and how did that change Reconstruction Reform, Why was Johnson impeached..and so on…

Better change the name of the road also to “Slippery Slope”. (sarcasm) This Cancel Culture is silly. It’s not like no one wants to talk about slavery, them seem to want to talk about it 24/7 ad nauseum.

Wentworth donated his collection to the state– honor him for his collection. What historian in his right mind wants to hide the history?

More virtue signaling and stirring the pot.

  2. If you remove his name, remove all of his artifacts and exhibits that make up the museum, because they are tainted. The UWF Historic Trust and City of Pensacola should not derive any benfite from him. Won’t be much of a museum after that.
